Back to School Towels

Yes. It's true. You are not seeing wrong. I wove hot pink yarn. If you know me personally, this is a very very very strange thing. What makes this happen, you ask? Well, not everyone has the same taste in color as I do. If they did it would be much easier to shop:) Since they don't, I have to find things that inspire my color palates. There was a beautiful plaid dress that I saw. It caught my eye because of the colors in it as they didn't exactly 'go' in a traditional sense. They were a little more playful than a traditional 'back to school' plaid. Not red but pink. Not black but green. Not white but purple. Since all of the colors were not in the stash o' cotton here at Sunrise Lodge, I did with what we had. Viola!!! In an 8 shaft block twill pattern, I wove quite a few of these and alternated the colors differently to make matching sets of 2 but no two sets alike. They are officially off of the loom and hemmed, ready to be washed and labeled. They wil

Do Over Done.....and Shibori Too!!!

Phew!!! The August challenge is finally completed for Etsy !!! I'm happier with the results of the second skein so.............here it is!!! Hand spun alpaca with a hint of nylon sparkle. Again, the theme was celestial so, I chose to dye alpaca blue, blend with nylon sparkle, then add bits of yellow dyed alpaca here and there. Much better and more in line with the theme than the original. Well, the shibori scarf that I have been working on is wet finished and pressed. Originally done in tencel with a plain tabby background , this scarf was woven in an overshot style pattern. The pattern that I used does not clearly show on the final piece because of the placement of the weft and ultimately the dye method. I'm very pleased with the results and can tell that this one is not going to stick around long..............which is a good thing!!! Finally, I received an email from a woman who had the space next to me at the show at My Saddle Brook Farm and I'm happy to show a littl

My Saddle Brook Farm and Shibori

Well this weekend was an absolute blast. The show at My Saddle Brook Farm was really a lot of fun. As with other shows, I got to meet some really great people, make some sales, do demonstrations, answer questions, get a tan, eat very little to nothing, and go home smiling. I always enjoy the conversations and explaining what I do and why (which is a very common question). I am also always amazed at how many men want to see exactly how the wheel works and are baffled at how simple the whole process is.....almost as if they are going home to make a wheel. Children always seem more interested in the baby products, which I find so charming. All in all a great day and I hope they do another event next year:) Here is a picture of the booth with no me behind it......I took the picture:) When I got everything back in order after the show, I had every intention of making it an early night. Ha!!! The night before, I had finished tying the weft in place for the shibori scarves and was dye

Moonlit Sky......I'm calling a do over:)

EtsyFAST , for the August Challenge, has a theme of celestial . I had dyed some alpaca three shades of blue and yellow. I blended the blues then added the yellow then nylon sparkle. When I spun that, I then decided to ply with a deep blue nylon thread. We sat and looked at each process and how the yarn was coming out......was it in fact celestial ? Yes but, not exactly what I had in mind so...........I'm doing another skein:) Ursula, my Sunrise Lodge Fiber Studio companion and consultant:), has made it perfectly clear that less blending must take place to allow the colors to be more defined. As I spun the yarn and peered over my nose at her, I could see exactly what she was about to say........'I told you'.......just smirking and spinning her almost perfect alpaca single. So.......I'm calling a do over:) I LOVE the way this yarn came out and really wish that the pictures picked up the sparkle nylon. I'm excited about the next skein as well.....off I go!!! In other

Projects Well Under Way

With my recent join with the Etsy street team EstyFAST (Fiber Arts Street Team), I have been delving back into dyeing protein fibers for the August challenge, which is a celestial theme. Here is the part that might be hard for some to handle......I have been dyeing alpaca. Yes yes I know, it's very taboo but, I can't help it. It's just that it comes out so beautiful. I dyed three different shades of blue and a little yellow. We shall see what the blending will bring. The scarves are off of the loom and I have to say that I am pleased with the results. Here they are. Green crosses pattern which is currently in the Wurtsboro Art Gallery. Black and blue hearts, my personal theme for the week;) And finally, feathers, which is a design that I created by altering a pattern. All three hung out to dry after wet finishing. With other news, this week as well as next will be very busy. Three of my items are now on display at the Wurtsboro Art Gallery along side some other amazin
